Screen printing vs DTF vs DTG: which one should I choose?

Choose screen printing for 24 or more shirts with a 1 to 3 color design: it is the cheapest and most durable. Choose DTF for small runs of full-color art on any fabric, including polyester. Choose DTG for full-color art with the softest feel on 100% cotton.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Which lasts longest?

Screen printing. Its thick ink layer holds up for years of washes. DTF is close behind. DTG lasts well on cotton if washed inside out in cold water.

Which is cheapest for 12 shirts?

Usually DTF, at about $15 per shirt for full color with no setup fee. A one-color screen print is about $16 per shirt plus a $25 screen, so about $18 each at 12 pieces.

Can you print on polyester and performance shirts?

Yes. DTF is the safest choice for polyester and performance fabrics. Screen printing works on many polyester blends; send us the garment and we will confirm. DTG is made for cotton and is not a good fit for polyester.

Can I mix methods on one shirt?

Yes. For example, a one-color screen print on the front and a full-color DTF print on the back. Each spot is priced with its own method.
